Drug use continues to increase, as evidenced by the number of charges for driving under the influence of drugs. On the island of Funen, more than two people are charged each week for drug-impaired driving.

There are several good reasons to implement drug testing as a preventive measure.

Both young and adult individuals use drugs and drive while under the influence. This represents a significant portion of the workforce, increasing the risk of them being under the influence while at work. Unfortunately, the trend is on the rise, as seen in the articles below. Drug-Impaired Driving is More Common Than Drunk Driving

When police stop drivers and charge them for driving under the influence, there are now more charges for drug-impaired driving than for drunk driving. According to data from 2018 to 2023, compiled by the Danish National Police for Ritzau, 6,088 charges for drunk driving were issued last year. In comparison, 8,526 charges were issued for drug-impaired driving.

Alcohol is No Longer the Police’s Biggest Traffic Issue

Since 2017, alcohol has not been the biggest culprit among drivers caught driving under the influence in Funen.
